AHRC Foundation Walk 2024: A Community United for Change
On a crisp autumn day, over 1,200 participants of all ages came together for the AHRC Foundation Walk 2024 to celebrate inclusion, community, and the incredible power of collective action. The event raised more than $100,000 for programs benefiting approximately 4,000 people with developmental disabilities across Long Island.
Leading the Way
Grand Marshal Michelle Rudoff, an AHRC Nassau employee and self-advocate, set the tone for the day with a message of community strength and inclusion, while Nicole Nolan Brown energized the crowd with warm-up activities before the walk began.
By the Numbers
- 114 teams and more than 755 registered walkers took part
- Top individual fundraiser: Gerry Powers, raising $4,300 for the Powers' Walkers team
- Top team fundraiser: Team Amanda 2024, led by Karen Anci, raising over $15,000
- Team Spirit Award: The Plainview Powerhouse
Community Impact
Inspiring opening remarks from Foundation leaders and enthusiastic volunteers along the route made the morning a true celebration of community resilience. Donations from the Walk support essential programs including education, health services, recreation, and inclusion initiatives for people with developmental disabilities in Nassau County.
