A Closer Look: Long Island Wine & Liquor Sales Club Tours AHRC Campus to See How Their Support Is Changing Lives
Members of the Long Island Wine & Liquor Sales Club (LIWLSC) visited AHRC Nassau's campus on March 19, touring the Brookville Center for Children's Services schools to see firsthand how their decades of support are changing lives. The visit came ahead of the Club's 79th Annual Golf & Tennis Outing, scheduled for June 2 at Garden City Country Club to benefit the AHRC Nassau Foundation.
The Tour
This year's honoree, Tim Burns, was joined by his wife Christine and fellow Club members. Denise Gaughan, Director of the Children's Education Center, guided the group through the campus, including:
- Classrooms equipped with Smart Boards and augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) devices
- Two Sensory Rooms with bubble tubes and fiber-optic lights that help students regulate
- The Practical Assessment Exploration System (PAES) Lab, where students explore job roles in business, construction, and technology
- A Model Apartment used to teach life skills such as meal preparation and household organization
- The Galaxy of Hope mural, which recognizes the LIWLSC as an Emerald Sponsor
What Their Support Made Possible in 2024
Thanks to the Club's generosity, the past year included more than 1,000 community-based experiences — museums, restaurants, and sporting events — the Pathways to Possibilities pilot program for autistic children in residential care, on-campus enrichment such as live music and petting zoos, and a 10-week Wheatley Farms program for Saturday Respite participants.
The Club's support benefits Brookville Center for Children's Services, AHRC Nassau, and Citizens Options Unlimited — and the tour offered a powerful reminder of the difference that long-term partnership makes.
